GET HUBBIED is a multi-tiered project conceived by Bettina Hubby and involving more than two dozen artists uniting under the collaborative studio HubbyCo, staging a genuine wedding ceremony for a hand-picked couple that says “I do” to this unorthodox and truly once-in-a-lifetime approach to tying the knot.
A real, marriage-bound couple--of any gender, race or religious affiliation, and of legal marrying age--will be selected among applicants, who will entrust HubbyCo with all the details involved in a wedding, from invitations and location to photography and flowers. Each detail will be interpreted by the coterie of artists, filmmakers, writers, musicians and designers signed on for this inimitable experience, conceived by Bettina Hubby, who serves as planner-curator. Each collaborator will re-work a tradition conceptually with the couple in mind. The couple and/or an underwriter will cover the complete cost of the wedding, including location, planning, as well as the original artistic contributions. HubbyCo will select the lucky couple based on a vetting process that includes applications and interviews.
Marriage, a fragile yet lastingly resonant institution, remains the only widely accepted form of officially honoring a relationship between two loving individuals. From the elements and rituals surrounding the ceremony to its social, legal and financial implications, the very act of marriage deserves exploratory consideration.
GET HUBBIED is designed to do this as a multi-media, multi-dimensional celebration of this time-honored institution via one lucky couple's ceremony.
