ABOUT HUBBYCO
Bettina Hubby is a visual artist and the founder of HubbyCo, a concept emphasizing artistic and craft disciplines and topical explorations.
In her one-off projects, Bettina has challenged notions of dress and image, reworking garments and re-contexualizing the results. These examinations continue to be a hallmark of the work produced in her Hollywood studio and are designated with the Hubby label.
HubbyCo is an evolution of these solitary efforts into collaborations with a fluid and divergent community of artists. This fledgling art and clothing studio counts ongoing creative director Tif Sigfrids, a songwriter, performance and visual artist; and seamstress and designer Anna Bruce, currently collaborating with HubbyCo on BENT, a line of accessories debuting in late 2009.
Under HubbyCo, Bettina has been shifting away from the lone role of artist-creator to curator-contributor, where she is a part of a fertile, diverse community. As a collective or movement, each project-specific group has in common an interest in considering and testing how together each one’s individual practices can intersect, create spectacles and push boundaries, both individually and collectively, and outside the confines of conventional exhibition settings.
Without one another, a HubbyCo project could not be realized.
